I Had No Idea What All I Had Stored Away Up In My Head.

lewisotr

When the Angora Chronicles first got started I didn’t bother to take inventory of how many stories I had in my head and I sure didn’t know if anyone else would be willing to tell a few stories of their own. So for this to carry on for more than seven years is kind of a miracle in itself. The screenshots below, of a very early post, makes it seem like I thought after a week or so I was about to run out of something to say. Of course 7 years and 3 month later, a few stories have … Continue reading I Had No Idea What All I Had Stored Away Up In My Head.

Espinosa

lewisotr

This is a story I wrote 4 years ago, in Oct. 2017. It tells of a typical love/hate between two men, of which I’m a part of. It’s hard to believe that it’s now been this long since I’ve seen my old friend. I decided to check with his daughter Rose this morning to see how her parents are doing. Remarkably they are still living out that life they have lived for so many years, almost 70 years. I vowed to go see them soon and I will do that. Within just a few months of me starting into the … Continue reading Espinosa

We Did Things Much Differently Back Then

lewisotr

This was written back in September 2014. Within a month or so in the beginning of The Angora Chronicles. I grew up around construction equipment and trucks. In the 60s when I was in high school Cecil Lewis ran a fleet of dump trucks. Among other things we had the contract to haul the blasted rock from the Pure Stone Quarry out south of Marble Falls back to the crusher in town. Even as young and as small as I was at 14 or 15, I commonly and single-handey pulled transmissions and replaced clutches in those old dump trucks and … Continue reading We Did Things Much Differently Back Then

We Took All The Boys Skiing

lewisotr

Soon after our trip on our Lake Tahoe Ski Trip, when I didn’t learn how to ski, Madeline was ready to take the 5 boys on their first ski adventure. I say Madeline was ready, because I had already retired from skiing after one trip to the top of a mountain. But figuring the boys would all go to ski school and then being young they’d catch on fast and everyone would have a good time. I didn’t mind just hanging out for a few days doing nothing. Madeline had made reservations at a nice resort in Keystone, Colorado. The … Continue reading We Took All The Boys Skiing

Snow Skiing – Ronnie Lewis Style

lewisotr

In the mid 80s several couples all went to Lake Tahoe for a little get away. I wasn’t an accomplished skier when we got there. To tell you the truth I had never had a pair of skis on. Several in our group had never skied either, including my wife and my brother, so they enrolled in Ski School. Only one couple with us were accomplished skiers. John and Belinda Kemper made it sound easy. So rather than waste time with ski school I got my equipment on and headed to the top of the mountain. I had never seen … Continue reading Snow Skiing – Ronnie Lewis Style

I Had No Idea It Would Happen So Quickly

lewisotr

When two teenagers were joined in Holy Matrimony at the Church of Christ in Marble Falls on the Saturday afternoon in a small ceremony with family and friends attending, never did I realize that one day fifty years later would ever get here. Of course I hoped to always be married to the same woman, but a 50th Anniversary just seemed so far out in the future I couldn’t visualize what that would look like. Well it’s here and we will be celebrating this evening. My 4 daughter in laws worked on a nice big party that would include family … Continue reading I Had No Idea It Would Happen So Quickly

Eating Beans Is The Thing Most Country People Have In Common.

lewisotr

Just about everyone I’m kin to and grew up around depended a lot on pinto beans as their main course many evenings. I remember when we lived down on the creek, out of Jollyville, getting off the school bus and making a long walk home. Before we would get to the front door I’d know there was a pot of beans on the stove. Those beans would be our afternoon snack after a hard day at Pond Springs School. Because we wanted something to eat right then, we would eat the beans that still had a firmness to them. Perhaps … Continue reading Eating Beans Is The Thing Most Country People Have In Common.

Now Don’t Get Me Wrong, I Ain’t No Doctor

lewisotr

I’m sitting around here this morning thinking about my poor hurting neck and shoulder. In fact it’s hard to do much else. This situation has my attention. I’ve spent the last three plus months with not much else on my mind except this. Don’t get me wrong, if I take enough drugs into my body, it leaves me along for a few hours, but the nagging always returns. I went in on Friday and got the third shot, one a month for three months and it is more painful now than it’s been being. Stored in my phone are photographs … Continue reading Now Don’t Get Me Wrong, I Ain’t No Doctor

My Big Surprise (from Nov. 2014)

lewisotr

I had a very pleasant surprise this evening. I got a text from a very dedicated employee, Chris Chapman and his wife Jeni. Jeni is the daughter of Madeline’s brother David. Chris has worked for the company almost his entire adult life, just short of 20 years. They had left a box by our back door here in Bertram. When I went out and retrieved and opened it, there were 5 copies of The Angora Chronicles, volume one. It has 67 stories, mostly some of the first stories I submitted. It is so professionally done. When Chris heard about my … Continue reading My Big Surprise (from Nov. 2014)

I Just Had A Winfield Memory Pop Up In My Head

lewisotr

Not long before Winfield’s death, I was in Houston and met him for lunch near his downtown office. He had not yet been disbarred for getting busted with drugs. He was making plans to come to Austin and open a practice. The rules about Attorney’s had changed allowing television advertising. Houston was saturated with those commercials but it hadn’t so much made it’s way to Austin. He was sure that him investing in a great advertising campaign would put him on the map post haste. He certainly had the line of BS to go a long way. Maybe had things … Continue reading I Just Had A Winfield Memory Pop Up In My Head
