Grannie Ruby And The Body Shop

It comes that time in old peoples lives when they shouldn’t drive any longer. Since Granny Ruby, my dad’s birth mother, was so independent, she drove longer than she should have. One day she had a wreck and messed up the front end of her Ford Sedan. She took it down the street from her house to a body shop, hoping to get it fixed before any of us knew anything about it. Bill’s Body Shop gave her an estimate and went to work on it. When he got ready to repainted it, they couldn’t make the paint match. The … Continue reading Grannie Ruby And The Body Shop

The Little Keepsake Box

This little wooden box is one of the treasures that I hold close to my heart. It belonged to my Grandmother, Leona, that we affectionately called Maw-Maw. The initials L P was for Leona Purcell. I will be telling you more in a couple of days about my Maw-Maw, who was known as Aunt Nonie by many folks around the country. Why in a couple of days? May 6, 2021 will commemorate 112 year’s since her birth. Now back to the box. I remember that she always kept this box on her dresser. When I would ask her about it, … Continue reading The Little Keepsake Box

GTE Telephone Switching Building

This story was originally written back in 2015. So another 6 years have come and gone with this saga. Back in 1977 GTE was updating the phone lines down Smithwick way. They made a deal with us to lease a small plot of ground to put an switching building on. The property where this building is located is on a 7 AC tract that I had owned for several years. Cec made the deal and I told him to just cash the check when it came in, which was easy enough for him to do back in those days. The … Continue reading GTE Telephone Switching Building

Is There Really Anything To A Dream?

I originally wrote this story back in October, 2015. Yesterday there was the post about not telling about a bad dream until after breakfast. Not knowing whether that applies to all dreams, I got up and had a bowl of Raisin Bran, just to keep it on the safe side. When I we lived in Dripping Springs in the 1985-1991 timeframe I, along with my sons were all baptized one Sunday morning by Rev. Grady Roe. It was about this time of year in 1985. I had only given myself over to going to church real sparingly up to that … Continue reading Is There Really Anything To A Dream?

The Big RL Is Climbing Up On His Soapbox Once Again

I don’t want to sound preachy and I’m not trying to guilt anyone into anything. It has been a long while since I brought this up. You say “what is it that this old fool is talking about”? It has to do with Facebook Etiquette. It doesn’t only apply to The Angora Chronicles, it pretty well goes across all groups, pages and people personal walls. When you take the time to read something, simply go up there and tap one of the icon showing what your feeling for that post is. By hitting LIKE or ❤️ or even the one … Continue reading The Big RL Is Climbing Up On His Soapbox Once Again

Winfield’s Funeral (also Jazzy’s Funeral)

I should let this story be the final one for Winfield, but I will go ahead and tell it now, because there are many other chapters between the one I wrote earlier about him and the end. I’m sure a lot of people wondered what ever happened to him. His family was pretty well off in terms of most of us. His dad had a good job at one of the dams in the area and also had a large hog farm. Winfield left Marble Falls in a Porsche headed to LSU in the fall of 1969. He became a … Continue reading Winfield’s Funeral (also Jazzy’s Funeral)

Sometimes you just have to adjust to the situation.

We drink coffee in the morning, pretty well every morning. Even though there are cheaper ways to drink coffee, we buy the K Cups and use a Keurig because we seldom drink more than a cup (although they are big cups). So making a pot of coffee seems like over kill. I drink my coffee out of a disposable Dixie Cup of the 16 ounce variety, with a lid. A while back my little granddaughter, Fia, (Sofia) started bringing me cups of coffee all during the day and night. With a face like this I couldn’t tell her that I … Continue reading Sometimes you just have to adjust to the situation.

Don’t Just Follow The Crowd

Back in the high flying times of the 1980s, there were several of my contractor friends that enjoyed going to Las Vegas, as did I. There were about 10 or 12 couples this one particular weekend that all left Austin on Southwest Airlines together bound for a great fun filled weekend in Vegas. It was a flight that took us through Tucson, Az but we weren’t suppose to de-plane, just a short stop-over. It was a fun flight with a festive atmosphere. I never heard anything said that I thought was out of line. Just a lot of fun and … Continue reading Don’t Just Follow The Crowd

The Two Minute Talk That Has Lasted Me A Lifetime

Udo was of German descent. He had a coarseness about him, but an incredible refinement as well. He adapted to the situation he was in at the moment. When he retired after a long career in the excavation business, he sold me his office and yard, along with some heavy equipment and trucks. We lived across the street from he and his wife, so our visits were frequent. In retirement he moved from his lifetime hobby of flying planes, to flying helicopters. He would often fly me around to look at my projects. It helped him stay in touch with … Continue reading The Two Minute Talk That Has Lasted Me A Lifetime
