Nothing else is like the love of a brother. A brother that can make you so mad that for a moment you will write him off, thinking it’ll be alright if you never speak again. There are some things that never change. We went in a place to eat lunch in Gatesville a while back. Upon finishing with our chicken fried steaks I pulled out my credit card to pay. Often when I talk to my brother on the phone, which is usually several times each day, those conversations will drag on longer than they need to. You know, there’s only so much that two people could have to say that hadn’t been covered in the first minute or so. Or something we haven’t said a thousand times before. Sometimes I Think Trouble Finds Me, Before It Even Looks For Anyone Else

This adventure started on Saturday morning Jan. 11th, 2014. I received a call from a young man that I’ve known his entire life, but haven’t had much contact with for many years. Johnny, as I’ll call him here, said he was down on his luck and could I give him some work. Being in Corpus Christi, 250 miles from Bertram, I said no I really didn’t have any work. Eddie was our welder for a good number of years. There wasn’t a better welder or a better feller around. Eddie told the story of his brother, also a welder up in Oklahoma, that ran his own shop. He was having a terrible time getting people to pay him for the work he did. Then he heard of a guy that would help him out and was given a business card. Leaving Corpus Christi this morning headed home. Saw a sign pointing to Rockport. Caused me to think of something that happened here on The Angora Chronicles once upon a time. It goes like this; There was a discussion about Dr. Woods in Marble Falls and how he delivered me. Someone mentioned that he had a brother that had a medical practice down in Rockport. We put 2 and 2 together and figure out that when Dr. Woods delivered me on Aug. 22, 1952, his bother delivered my wife 200 miles away just four days before on Aug. 18, 1952. In fact I like strawberry, just about anything. But there were several years that I wouldn’t eat strawberries. What you ask would cause someone to not eat something if they really like it? My many stories of my friend Dink, conjures up yet another story. As I’ve said before, I many times needed to check in on Dink because we had a business deal that wasn’t working out as planned. Since I never knew where he was, there was a network of his friends that I talked to and would report Dink sightings. I suppose the statue of limitations has run out on this story, so maybe I can tell this without Joe or me going to jail. As I’ve said earlier Brown Parker was one of my Dad’s best friends as was Joe Alderson. Brown lived in California and he and his wife owned a very successful Commercial Laundry business. Every summer they traveled back to Smithwick for two weeks of vacation. He almost always brought his boat and a case of Jim Beam whiskey.
