My Brother And I Have A Very Special Relationship

Kenny and I see each other almost daily, but talk on the phone for sure every day. Now what do we have that is so important to talk about ? We have business interests together but that doesn’t seem to occupy much of our conversation time. We are much more likely to talk about the old days, the crazy people that have been in our lives and the really good people we’ve came in contact with. We tell each other about what animals we’ve seen, wild and domesticated. He runs cattle on my place so I keep him up to … Continue reading My Brother And I Have A Very Special Relationship

I love experimenting with things

I bought one of these Ninja Foodi Cooking Pots. It is amazing. It will do dang near anything except wash itself. But that part is pretty dang easy anyway. To be sure I’m getting everything cooked to a proper temperature, I have acquired a digital thermometer that I can probe the meat and other dishes with. I have been concerned with the accuracy of this device, so I held the probe under my tongue for a bit and it only went up to 96 degrees. But I guess that’s close enough for government work, as the old saying goes. Now … Continue reading I love experimenting with things

You Can Take The Boy Out Of The Country, But………

I was down at Turkey Bend one time visiting all the old Hall women as they were referred to. This consisted of sisters, Mabel Hall Wilson, Earlie Hall Croft, Mamie Hall Franck, and their sister in law Libby Hall. They all lived there in one little wad, so when you went to visit one, you just about needed to make an afternoon of it, but it was always a pleasure to do so. I always called them Aunt, not because they were my aunts, but out of respect. I’m not sure why that was respectful, but it was. I know … Continue reading You Can Take The Boy Out Of The Country, But………

Why I Am Impatient

It just occurred to me that I seldom will order anything that I can’t get next day shipping on. If I buy something I want to touch and feel in right then and there. People ask why I don’t order new cars and trucks, so I can get them exactly like I want them. I always think, what if I order it and it takes 2 or 3 months to get it, and then it isn’t exactly what I want. That could happen, easily. I order a pizza for delivery and I’m pacing the floor, waiting for it to get … Continue reading Why I Am Impatient

All My Sons

Madeline was moving some her favorite pieces of furniture to our new place in Corpus a few years ago. She was the one setting up the furniture move, because I had proven that I wasn’t a good mover. I asked her who was bringing the stuff down. She proudly proclaimed “All My Sons”. Puzzled, because we had decided that it was all the really good stuff (stuff that cost too much) and me moving it wasn’t going to work. We have a long history of severe damage every time I have moved anything. In my mind our sons learned everything … Continue reading All My Sons

J.P. and the Tires

I’ve told a story about the snake victim that was working up in the wrecking yard. The junk yard is what we called it, was a 5 acre abandoned field up the hill and out of sight of our house. It was on our land, but was operated by Hugh Hampton. He would bring wrecked cars in and strip them down for usable car parts then scrap the remaining pieces. One day a “63” or it may have been a “64” Chevy Impala was brought in that had been in a wreck and was pretty much totaled. It had belong … Continue reading J.P. and the Tires

The Story That Shouldn’t Be Told

There was a guy once that left Houston to go with his wife and a son to Augusta, Ga. to visit yet another son that was training there with the US Army. This absolute idiot of a guy decided to go on the Atkins Diet while traveling. Not the brightest move I’d say. If a person eats only meat, cheese and eggs for several days, his regularly is not exactly in check if you know what I mean. The Atkins Diet Plan instructs you to take Psyllium Fiber to help with the above condition. The time to take a bunch … Continue reading The Story That Shouldn’t Be Told

The Narcoleptic Motorcycle Rider

I think there are certain things that come naturally, that good judgement comes with experience. For me, even though I owned a Honda Goldwing for about 12 or 13 years I only took one long trip on it. That was to Tulsa, Oklahoma. I know that’s not that far by some motorcycle traveling enthusiasts standards. I think I trusted myself on that trip because it was cold going up. Of course I just made it to Fort Worth the first night. On the way home it rained straight down, hard a good part of the way home. Being a chronic … Continue reading The Narcoleptic Motorcycle Rider

I Am Very Fortunate That My Mother Kept So Many Of The Little Keepsakes From My Childhood

I have so many things now to look back on and to help me recall my childhood, all thanks to my mother. This little wallet is an example of the things she held onto, on my behalf. The remote isn’t really old, but is being used to demonstrate the small size of that wallet. This very small kid size wallet, that my mother name and address in, was from Mexico. As you can see I carried it many a mile. How it survived is beyond me. This was bought in the very early 1960s. On the same trip there was … Continue reading I Am Very Fortunate That My Mother Kept So Many Of The Little Keepsakes From My Childhood

On Being A Left Hander

Being Left Handed Myself………. not sure how it would have worked out in my case, to make me write with my right hand. Almost everyone said I had the worst handwriting of anyone. I could have made a real mess trying to write with my right hand. However my grandmother, Leona, was left handed, but they “switched” her when she started to school. She had beautiful handwriting and the experience left her mostly ambidextrous with everything she did. https://famouslefthandedpeople.com/ Continue reading On Being A Left Hander
