A Father’s Day Message To My Sons & Grandsons

Sometimes the best lessons that life gives are not about learning the right things to do, but rather learning from the things not to do. As a son, you can observe how your father handled situations, but it can be difficult to emulate his moves. Instead, it is more beneficial to watch what your father did and then avoid making the same mistakes he did. I don’t necessarily want my sons and grandsons to follow the same life journey that I have traveled, as it has been a difficult and challenging road. Fellows, take the things you observed me do … Continue reading A Father’s Day Message To My Sons & Grandsons

Let’s But A New Roomy Car For These 5 Boys

Not too long after we had a whole house full of kids I went and bought Madeline a new suburban. It was a GMC and it was actually demonstrator. When I got home we started looking for the backseat. I figured it was folded down and you just couldn’t see it. Come to figure out it didn’t come with a third seat. It would’ve been bolted in. So I went back and told them to order me one and they said that they couldn’t because it wasn’t equipped with the mounts for the seat or the seatbelts. So trying to … Continue reading Let’s But A New Roomy Car For These 5 Boys

Grandma May

She was Judy Maybelle Clark Linebarger. She was my Great Grandmother. When I was a kid she lived with her daughters. It seems like she kind of moved with the seasons. It wasn’t because she wasn’t happy one place, but rather because she enjoyed all of her girls (all 4) and choose to spend her later years with each. At least that’s the way it seemed. The time I remember her the most was when she was staying with my grandmother Ruby in her home in north central Austin. Grandma May was a lady that never complained and was always … Continue reading Grandma May

Connecting The Dots

This past weekend was a slow one. Several times I’ve been talking with or chatting on messenger with someone and we start thinking we are kinfolks, because we have the name Lewis or Boultinghouse in our lineage. For me, of course, I carry the Lewis name around with me in my billfold right there on my drivers license. My mother was a Boultinghouse, so there you go. There aren’t all that many Boultinghouse’s in the world, or in Texas. And for the most part that is the world to me. Lewis is a name that is far reaching. There may … Continue reading Connecting The Dots

A Little Digging Pays Off

This post is about the name I found on my Paternal Great Grandparents (Moses and Judy Maybelle Linebarger) Marriage License. I was curious about who the Minister was that married them. The spelling of the name was hard to make out. Trying several different spellings I finally went to the Burnet Co. History Book – Vol. 1 and found the name Bro. Rucker. Seeing that he had been at a church, Hale Spring Baptist Church which was located up Hamilton Creek, I decided this may be the man I was looking for. But it didn’t give a first name or … Continue reading A Little Digging Pays Off

Cousins Growing Up Together

These two girls, Anna & Sofia are best friends and live next door to each other as well as next door to us. So we enjoy watching their exploits every day. It is possible for them to get out of sorts with each other from time to time, but within minutes everything is all better. Their Grandma & I are away for a few days. Last night we got a text with this picture (it will be in the comments) of them already asleep in Gma’s bed, each with their favorite blanket. Well before the sun went down. But surely … Continue reading Cousins Growing Up Together

Finding The Stash Of Stolen Beer

Back in the early 1960s, Kenny and I were doing what we usually did just about every day. We rode horses. That was our job, our vocation. We weren’t pleasure riders. We broke and rode horses to make our spending money. We had a contact to ride Shetlands for a fellow. I’ve written much more about that, so I’ll just place that down at the bottom of this story. We rode up an old cedar chopper road that was down below our house a little ways. The road was overgrown with small cedars and a tight squeeze to get up … Continue reading Finding The Stash Of Stolen Beer

One Of The Strangest Things

For all the stories I’ve told on here and circumstances I grew up with, I don’t think my Mother or any of my Grandmother’s ever heard me say a curse word prior to me being grown. This was not because we grew up in a highly religious home. My mother was a spiritual person but she didn’t attend church regularly. I attended church with my Grandmother Leona, but I didn’t exactly fall in line there. It was a different time we lived in. We actually knew how to turn course language on and off. I guess it was more out … Continue reading One Of The Strangest Things
