Connecting The Dots After 43 Years
I received a text from a fellow I know this morning. He sent me a picture of one of my business cards. It was a card from sometime prior to 1985. That is when I sold my office on Montopolis Drive and moved on with a new address. So that’s how I knew how old the card was. He found it taped to the wall in a house he had recently purchased. Out of curiosity I ask where the house was, thinking that I may know the person that lived there. As soon as he told me which house it … Continue reading Connecting The Dots After 43 Years
They may have been Thundereggs
When I was a kid, back in the 1960s, my mother and dad took up a hobby of lapidary. Bonnie Gay was always hunting for special rocks and Indian artifacts. When it came to arrowheads and such she had a … Continue reading They may have been Thundereggs
It Happened So Fast
Today was a nice Saturday morning. The day of our Fall – Smithwick Cemetery Meeting. As our meeting was concluding I was told of a headstone that had probably been moved accidentally while an adjacent grave was being dug. I reported that the grave digger was due there on Monday to open a grave and I would contact him and ask for his assistance in putting the upright piece back in the center of the base slab. Just to be sure that I knew the exact location and conditions, I stopped back by the cemetery. I found the headstone in … Continue reading It Happened So Fast
Send In Your Poop

Capitol National Bank and a Slight Misunderstanding
Back when my friend Winfield, the CPA, worked for me we were being courted by one of the big downtown Austin banks. Emory Thompson was the pitch man for The Capitol National Bank that would come by and try to get us bring our business to them. I knew him, his family had owned a big tire business that had sold and he went from being a tire salesman to being a money salesman. We had been doing business with a small local bank in north Austin, aptly named North Austin State Bank. They had done everything I’d ever wanted … Continue reading Capitol National Bank and a Slight Misunderstanding
Testing the Limits
(Written August 20, 2025) I told you all about getting a device implanted in my back a while back. It’s a spinal cord stimulator. It puts a mild current into the nerves in my lower back and carries down into … Continue reading Testing the Limits
Olin Sylvester’s Welding Shop
Olin Sylvester had a welding shop on 3rd Street in Marble Falls, just down below the Pool Hall. Olin had remarkable welding skills. Regardless of what we tore up on trucks and machinery, he could stick it back together. He was a hard worker and very steady at his craft. I didn’t know much about about him until it looked it up earlier. His mother was a Kinser. So it appears he had deep roots in Burnet County. I spent a lot of time at that welding shop, taking in pieces, picking them up as well as hanging around waiting … Continue reading Olin Sylvester’s Welding Shop
My Bald Spot
I was the President of a newly formed association that was to benefit the Underground Utilities Industry in the State of Texas. We were associated with the Nation Utility Contractors Association that was commonly known as the as NUCA. When we formed our state chapter in 1985, we adopted the clever acronym TUCA. With Austin being the hub of all things political in Texas we located our office there. I had some vacant office space in my building which was up on a rise overlooking downtown Austin. Back in those days the Capitol Building wasn’t obscured by all the tall … Continue reading My Bald Spot
