This is the Dad of the very famous TV star, Ronda Haberer of Badlands Texas, the TV Documentary that was on NTGEO. “I am always confused whether Ronda made the show famous or the show made her famous” Below is a post she made telling about her dad back in 2016. Below is something I ran across that tells about his accomplishments during his short life. I found it at this website. Check it out for more bio’s of great folks from your past. http://cowboyandarenachampions If you find that you are headed out to the great Western Part of Texas, … Continue reading Tony Gale Haberer – Bullrider

Mobile Phones On The Cheap

After the prosperous years of the 80’s came the real estate bust of the late 80’s and early 90’s. Kenny, Coy (of double tailed quarter fame) and I were teamed up again doing work together. The days of mobile phones had given way to pagers and pay phones. Mobile phones were very costly in the early days. My average phone bill in the 80’s was $1,000 – $1,200 per month. And that wasn’t for the whole company, that was just me. I stayed on the phone constantly, conducting business and doing a fair share of BSing. Those costs just weren’t … Continue reading Mobile Phones On The Cheap

A Beautiful Jackie Kennedy or is it ?

I only have one regret in bringing you this picture. That it wasn’t clearer and in color. He was wearing a nice red dress. Would you ever guess this was a 13 year old Kenny Lewis, on his way to a talent show for the end of school at Pond Springs Elementary School in Jollyville, Texas – May 1963. He was a very attractive Jackie Kennedy, the First Lady of the United States. I promise if I run across a better photo, I’ll post it. He was smokin hot. The Mind Of A Grandkid

What is going on with kids nowadays? Do they think they can ask for just about anything and get it ? My 15 year old granddaughter sent me a text this morning asking if I could bring her a plastic HEB bag to school that she’d need at athletics. I said to myself “a plastic bag”? I snapped a picture of one to be sure we are on the same page. Sure nuff, I’m being asked to drive 15 miles each way to take her a plastic grocery bag. What are the chances I’m going to break from my very … Continue reading The Mind Of A Grandkid

If It’s Not Yours Don’t Take It

I’m guessing I was probably in the 3rd grade and Kenny was in the 5th. Mr. Henniger was the principal at Pond Springs School, the little 3 room school we attended in Jollyville. After we ate our lunch each day, in Mr. Henniger’s office there was a chest type deep freezer where he kept ice cream bars. If you had your nickel you could buy a ice cream sandwich or a fudgesicle to eat out on the playground. After we finished our lunch, we would go in there and line up and watch as he unlocked the freezer with a … Continue reading If It’s Not Yours Don’t Take It

Don’t Be Passing On The Shoulder

When I drive around Houston now I reflect on how much different it was in 1975-76. Where there are freeways and toll roads everywhere, back then you used a lot of 2 lane roads to get around. We were living over in the Alief area of southwest Houston and traveled Highway 6 a lot. There was intersection at Richmond Rd. or Westhiemer Rd. where traffic would back up for a half mile and take 30 minutes to get through. One Friday afternoon Madeline, the baby and I were leaving Houston to spend the weekend at Marble Falls. We had been … Continue reading Don’t Be Passing On The Shoulder

The Highway Patrolman Down By Paleface Park

Besides racing Shetland’s at Paleface and eating lots of BBQ at the Paleface Store I have one other story that connects to that area. One Sunday morning Kenny, Karen, Madeline and I were heading from Marble Falls to our great grandmother Purcell’s for a birthday celebration at Luling. I was driving Madeline’s new 1974 Pontiac Granville with that big 455 cubic inch engine in it. Most likely I was exceeding the speed limit. Oh of course I was. Because of gas rationing they had just reduced the speed limit to a maximum of 55 MPH statewide, so almost everyone broke … Continue reading The Highway Patrolman Down By Paleface Park

The Big Crash

Shortly before Madeline and I married I was working in Burnet and she was living in South Austin with Dixie Lewis and another gal. On Wednesday nights I would drive to Austin to court her, spend the night and head out early the next morning so as to arrive in Burnet by 7:00 AM. Of course courting Madeline meant I’d come to Austin and she, Dixie and I would go to El Matamoros (El Matt’s was what we all called it) and completly stuff ourselves with Mexican Food. Once we would arrive there with Dixie, the place would come alive … Continue reading The Big Crash
