Cecil Lewis Wasn’t Always A Patient Man

It wouldn’t be hard to take away from my previous stories that Cec wasn’t a perfect man in every way. He was hard on us boys. Not just his sons, but all those that worked for him or even just hung out with us. He wanted stuff done and done then. He didn’t take to a lot of foot dragging. For any of his faults he could fly off the handle at the drop of a hat. But as strange at it may seem, if anything broke or got wrecked, he always kept his cool. It was as if at … Continue reading Cecil Lewis Wasn’t Always A Patient Man

A Day Like Today Makes Me Think Back…….

……to the old chest type coke machines that kept the bottles in a bath of cold water. The drinks were the coldest of any you could find. Sometimes the flavor you wanted would be down the line and you’d have to work to reorganize them into other tracks until you finally slid the bottle along metal rails to the flip gate that was activated when you dropped your money in the slot. It actually took effort to pull hard enough to get them out. (Only people that used this type of coke machine will understand what I’m saying) I think the … Continue reading A Day Like Today Makes Me Think Back…….

My Surprise (from Nov. 2014)

I had a very pleasant surprise this evening. I got a text from a very dedicated employee, Chris Chapman and his wife Jeni. Jeni is the daughter of Madeline’s brother David. Chris has worked for the company almost his entire adult life, just short of 20 years. They had left a box by our back door here in Bertram. When I went out and retrieved and opened it, there were 5 copies of The Angora Chronicles, volume one. It has 67 stories, mostly some of the first stories I submitted. It is so professionally done. When Chris heard about my … Continue reading My Surprise (from Nov. 2014)

Get Busy And Tell Your Story

As many of you know The Angora Chronicles got started by several people encouraging me to tell some of the stories of my growing up years. I had about four dozen stories that I’d written several years ago, just mainly as a way to leave something behind for my sons and grandkids, telling them about what life was like in my early years. That only seemed important because it wasn’t likely that anyone else would ever do it for me. Besides if anyone tried, they wouldn’t tell it like it really happened. I’m the only person on earth that knows … Continue reading Get Busy And Tell Your Story

This Popped Up From A Long Ago Post Of Mine….. Like Six Years Ago Today.

To clear the air a bit. A couple days ago, one of the members of this forum (FB Friend) chided me a bit for my misspelling and grammar usage. It was in a joking way and I really don’t care what she thinks, just because she has her teaching credentials. (Big deal Laurie – And I am really jabbing her for jabbing me) I’m not here to write a treatise that will end up in the Library of Congress. My point here in my posts are to convey my thoughts in a matter that would be liking to me speaking … Continue reading This Popped Up From A Long Ago Post Of Mine….. Like Six Years Ago Today.

The Way To Know When You Have Been To A Memorial Service For a Very Special Person

Today was the day of D. L. “Punk” Turner’s Memorial Service. A large crowd of people gathered to celebrate the life of Punk. Then a nice meal was enjoyed afterwards at the Oatmeal Community Center. The day was spent talking about the positive things about Punk. While there was sadness felt by all, because he will be missed, there was a joy in the air for what he meant to every person in attendance. Whether family or friend, whether life long friend or newly made friend, everyone could say that Punk left a mark on their life. The love, the … Continue reading The Way To Know When You Have Been To A Memorial Service For a Very Special Person

Is There Really Anything To A Dream?

A while back there was the post on here about not telling about a bad dream until after breakfast. Not knowing whether that applies to all dreams, I got up and had a bowl of Raisin Bran, just to keep it on the safe side. When we lived in Dripping Springs in the 1985-1991 timeframe, I along with my five sons were all baptized one Sunday morning by Rev. Grady Roe. It was in the fall of 1985. I had only given myself over to going to church real sparingly up to that point. I wasn’t sure I had the … Continue reading Is There Really Anything To A Dream?

Some History Of Feed Stores In Marble Falls – The Early Days

We ran across a receipt in an old wallet than belonged to my Grandfather, Theron Lewis. He passed away in 1958. The receipt was for a ton of cattle cubes from Winters Supply Company in Marble Falls. It was dated 8-12-1953. I was not familiar with the business so I called Sam Burnam to see if that was the same business owned by his family, maybe at an earlier time. According to Sam, it was a different business and location. Winters Supply was located at the back of Bill Smiths Mobil Station that was at Highway 281 and 4th Street, … Continue reading Some History Of Feed Stores In Marble Falls – The Early Days

Once Again Listening To The News Had My Head Spinning.

The Rock has offered to The President to help resolve the issues with Iran, to keep all out war from breaking out over there. I’m thinkIng what can a famous wrestler, Dewayne “The Rock” Johnson do to lessen tensions, but then after the relationship between Dennis Rodman and the little North Korean Dictator being what it is, maybe so. It was when I kept listening that I finally figured out it was Iraq, that was offering their help and not The Rock. Continue reading Once Again Listening To The News Had My Head Spinning.
