Beloved

I went to view the wonderful artwork of Akiane at the Beloved Gallery in Marble Falls. This was an amazing experience. If you haven’t seen this art exhibit, make an appointment to go see it. You will be treated to a wonderful guided tour through the Gallery. It starts off with a 18 to 20 minute video that tells the story of Akiane. Afterwards you go at your own pace to view some of this amazing child’s (now a woman) work. The whole thing lasts an hour. If you leave there feeling like you didn’t get your moneys worth let … Continue reading Beloved

THE OLD FACTORY BUILDING in Marble Falls, Texas

I grew up in Marble Falls in the 60s.We always referred to the old building on the north side of the river as “The Factory“. During my high school years (1966-1970) it was a burned out shell of a building where kids would go exploring. Then in 1971 it was torn down, only leaving a concrete slab for more than the next 25 years. These most of the views are as you enter Marble Falls from the south, as you come down the hill, looking across to the old section of the town. Now two restaurants and a hotel occupy … Continue reading THE OLD FACTORY BUILDING in Marble Falls, Texas

Buzz-Saw Lewis

I was chatting with Wallace Herbert earlier today. He reminded me of something that happened in the wild crazy days, must have been in 1970 or early 71. I had a new Chevrolet Pickup. I had pulled in at the Truck Stop out in Tin City out north of Marble to fill it up with some of that $.35 a gallon gas. That had become the late night hangout by that time with a bunch of guys standing around outside. Probably 8 or 10 of us. One of the fellows was a Marble Falls tuff guy that was best known … Continue reading Buzz-Saw Lewis

The Fortune Teller

We traveled from Marble Falls to San Antonio for our 1970 senior trip. (Whoopee, that was a dandy trip after putting in 12 hard years) Late in the afternoon we ended up by Breckenridge Park at an amusement park / arcade.Several of us, Madeline included, decided to go to a fortune teller. When it was my turn she read my palms or something and said ” one day you will write a book”. I don’t remember what it cost for the fortune teller but we all laughed until we cried at how wrong she was. You see I would never … Continue reading The Fortune Teller

John, We Ain’t In Marble Falls Anymore

I posted pictures of laying pipes across Lake Marble Falls back in the early 1980s. On this forum my friend John mentioned in a post about things going so well on the pipes going across the lake that he, Belinda, Madeline and I took a trip to Vegas to enjoy our successes. Our flight was out of Austin. The plane had passengers on it that had originated in Houston. When John, the 2 blond bombshell’s and I boarded we looked back and our friend and fellow MF Classmate, Winfield was toward the back. With hand gestures we agreed to visit … Continue reading John, We Ain’t In Marble Falls Anymore

Preston Milk

Who remembers the fleet of Preston Milk Trucks that traveled US 281 from Burkburnett down to San Antonio, delivering raw milk in tankers and other products in refrigerated van type trailers? Seems like all the trucks were Freightliner Cabovers, painted a light blue color. They could be seen many times daily rolling down US 281. Sometime to break up the monotony, you’d see them traveling down I-35 through Austin. I think some also were going down into the Rio Grande Valley. They were running at least in the later 1960s and continued until into the 1970s and maybe later. They … Continue reading Preston Milk

Taking Marble Falls Water And Wastewater Service South Of The River

My friend John Kemper had property south of the bridge and needed city utility service run across to it. He worked with the city to run large enough lines to serve a larger area as well. Working with engineers from Austin a concept of running an 8″ water line and a 6″ wastewater pressure line was designed to snake underneath the lake and lay on the bottom. It was to have large concrete weights strapped to each line to hold them in place. The pipe was to be a very durable HDPE pipe that was manufactured in Canada. It was … Continue reading Taking Marble Falls Water And Wastewater Service South Of The River

A Thought Occurred To Me Today, Just As It Does Every Time I Leave Out of Llano And Head Up To Brady

I had graduated from high school shortly before, so this would have been an afternoon in the summer of 1970. I had landed the best gig I thought anyone possibly could. I was getting to drive a cattle truck for the Wenmohs Ranch. Joe Wenmohs only had one cattle truck at the time, a Ford Cabover that was turned up to where it would run with almost anything out on the highways. That tractor was hooked up to a 52’ triple deck Wilson aluminum trailer. That truck primarily ran from the Wenmohs Ranch out by Blue Lake, Llano County, to … Continue reading A Thought Occurred To Me Today, Just As It Does Every Time I Leave Out of Llano And Head Up To Brady
