My Christmas Story – 2010

My youngest Grandson Will is a very funny kid. I’m not sure he means to be funny but he is. While we were opening Christmas presents I could see he wasn’t pleased. When I asked his Mother what was wrong, she told me that he didn’t like it that everyone was getting new iPads. The whole iPad thing started with Will several months ago. When his Dad upgraded his iPhone earlier this year, Will received the old one. It didn’t actually have phone service, but he could play games and listen to music. He was very satisfied with that, since … Continue reading My Christmas Story – 2010

I Have A Habit Of Whipping Out Old Saying On My Grandkids

When asked this morning by my high school freshmen grandson, Will or Catfish as many of you know him by, “what’s happening”? I said “the same old six and seven”, figuring that would throw him off. To which I said “it really doesn’t make sense”. It made me stop to think what does that saying really mean and where it originated. The trusty internet came through once again. Anyway, that explanation seemed to satisfy his inquisitive mind and mine too. Continue reading I Have A Habit Of Whipping Out Old Saying On My Grandkids

On This Very Day, 18 Years Ago

We had no idea what the future held. Emma Nicole Lewis popped out into this world and has entertained us all every day since then. That blond hair was always mostly seen sticking out from underneath a cap, worn backwards most of the time. As she entered Kindergarten at Bertram, she wore her cap everyday. Although wearing hats in school wasn’t permitted, they gave up on that rule with Emma, if I remember correctly. It just wasn’t worth their effort to change her mind. She had a very nice early career in Quarter Midget Racing, along with her brothers, Nate … Continue reading On This Very Day, 18 Years Ago

A Dream Come True

When the ones we love go away to college, we are as full of dreams as they are. Our very precious oldest granddaughter, Holly finished high school just a little less than 4 years ago and headed off to Waco to attend Baylor University. It took her a little while to determine what her best direction would be with her major. She finally settled on a Communications Degree (actually it’s something about “Digital Communications”) and she went to work and graduated after 3 1/2 years. Because of her outstanding performance she was allowed to spend the final semester of her … Continue reading A Dream Come True

Wooden Pallets aren’t just for the homeless anymore.

There is no greater honor than having your grandchildren ask you to do something with them. My granddaughter Holly wanted to build a bed-riser out of used pallets. So the two of us went to work repairing a bunch of pallets. She got the hang of using a power saw. I left her sanding and getting ready to stain them. She send me a photo later after she had the first group stained gray. Now I will awaited the finished project. I’ll tell you young men out there this girl is a real catch. She graduated from Baylor last December … Continue reading Wooden Pallets aren’t just for the homeless anymore.

The Mystery Has Been Solved

A few days ago I was mopping the kitchen floor with one of these Bissell machines that sprays water and cleanser out, has some spinning brushes that scrubs the floor and lastly it sucks the dirty water up in another reservoir. This was just after we had entertained a big bunch of our grandkids on New Years Eve. So it was really needing a cleaning. After I did a fairly small area the machine made the sound that it makes when the dirty water reservoir is full and needs emptying. I thought that strange. I unsnapped the little tank to … Continue reading The Mystery Has Been Solved

The Mind Of A Grandkid

What is going on with kids nowadays? Do they think they can ask for just about anything and get it ? My 15 year old granddaughter sent me a text this morning asking if I could bring her a plastic HEB bag to school that she’d need at athletics. I said to myself “a plastic bag”? I snapped a picture of one to be sure we are on the same page. Sure nuff, I’m being asked to drive 15 miles each way to take her a plastic grocery bag. What are the chances I’m going to break from my very … Continue reading The Mind Of A Grandkid
