I’m Living Right This Morning

A call came in on my cell phone. It was “Gerald” wanting to talk about my Medicare Coverage. Had that strange sounding voice. My wife was sitting here beside me in the living room and we are drinking coffee. She doesn’t like listening to me cutting up with these people on the phone. So I held off a few moments deciding whether I should just hang up or whether to go in the other room to talk my usual shenanigans.

Then Gerald asked if this was Ronald and Madeline. It was really Geraldine, a lady up in DFW that was verifying information on an application we made last week to change our Medicare Supplemental Policies. When she said both of our names I clued in that it wasn’t a scammer.

I calmly settled in, as did Madeline to go over our application, together. Rather than each of us having to get separate calls.

I could have easily unleashed on this lady, but I didn’t. If the usual had happened when she got to the question on the form that addressed my mental health, I’m not sure it would have been believable when I said I haven’t been treated for any psychological disorders in the past 62 days.

When we got off the phone call, we both looked at each other knowing how close things came to a real calamity.

I did the safe thing and entered this lady in my phone directory. Just in case she needs to call back.
