One day recently two old friends, friends for more than six decades were driving to have lunch at a favorite spot. They would get there well before the place opened as it turned out.
The passenger said, “what did I do with those papers I was carrying when I got in”? The driver admitted he saw him get in with them, so they must be somewhere. A little farther down the road, the old fellow discovered that he had shoved them in the door pocket. Inquiring what they were he said, “it’s some prescriptions I picked up from the doctor”.
The Driver said “How about we go by and drop them off at the drugstore on our way, we have time to kill”. So they did and then went on and had lunch afterwards. Then the one friend dropped the other one off back at his front door step.
Life went on for each and they talked the next day. “Did you go get your prescriptions”? He said that he hadn’t. Later that afternoon noon a text came in saying “I need to talk to you”.
Without asking what he needed to talk about, the text immediately went on to other things. Like sometimes we just know what someone is going to say and we don’t really want to hear it. So the conversation just on by. But the one friend knew what was needing to be said.
The next morning the old friend, the driving one, awoke early. He knew what needed to be done so he drove the hour to that CVS, timing the trip so he didn’t arrive until the drive up window opened at 9:00 AM on that Saturday morning. He told the drugstore employee that he needed to pickup a couple of prescriptions that had been dropped off a couple of days before. She looked and said they only had one ready and it was 40 something dollars.
“But we dropped off two prescriptions”. After some confusion, she spoke to the Pharmacist and they went through the records and said we were told to restock this one.
Blindly, the old friend said, can you go ahead and fill that one and he’d just wait. A few minutes later the Pharmacy Tech rang them both up. When I say blindly, he didn’t really want to even know the cost, didn’t want to even take a chance on backing out of purchasing the drug, something he knew was very important for the health of his old friend. You can’t put a price on friendship.
A few minutes later the sack of drugs were delivered. Few words were spoken. There wasn’t much that needed to be said.
