Something Strange Occured As I Watched An Episode of 48 Hours

A couple of nights ago I was going through a bunch of saved television true crime shows I had saved.

I title caught my eye, so I clicked on it to read a little about it. It had happened in Austin. The name of the episode was The Shootout at the Shaughnessys’.

The story took place back in 2018, but I had no recollection of it ever happening. It was about a Jewelry Store and a couple that owned it.

I watched a few minutes and a scene flashed up showing the front of the store. Then soon thereafter it showed the couple. It was all so familiar.

I won’t say much more, as to not spoil it for anyone that may enjoy the suspense of watching a good crime drama unwind.

Once about 15 years ago, my wife and I were doing business with a Financial Planning Firm and we were invited to that business, The Jewelry Store, to a mixer, a meet and greet affair one night. We have never been the wine and cheese with a lot of small talk type people. But we felt a great connection to the gal, the Financial Planner who was co-hosting it so we probably went to support her.

Before the night was over, my wife picked out a very nice bracelet and we made a sizable purchase before we left. I don’t remember us ever returning there, as our jewelry purchasing days were about at its end.

The proprietors were a really nice couple and they had a nice business going, was what I left there thinking.

While I watched the program, that night came hauntingly back to me. As the story continued on, the man was murdered during a home invasion and the wife was lucky to have lived. There were many twists and turns.

It just left me thinking, one just never knows what’s lurking in our lives.

The Financial Planner Gal moved on with her life and I hadn’t spoken to her in about 10 years. We had taken our business elsewhere. She now lives in California. We didn’t remain friends on Facebook, but a quick search put me in touch with her last night.

I told her how shocked I was to hear the story about the Jewelry Store Couple from that night so long ago. She concurred about being shocked by what happened. She too didn’t hear about it for a year or two. Of course with her being 1500 miles, it’s more understandable that she wasn’t aware of it. Not sure what my excuse was.
